Always look at slickdeals. They have so much to offer every day. The above link comes out to $799.99. I have no idea if you’ll have tax tacked on, or not, but if so, I’m sure there is something you could change on that system to lower its cost a tad.

You could probably also go the "custom" route through someone like xoticpc.com. You’ll have to poke around their various models to see if anythign suits you. I purchased MY laptop from cyberpowerpc.com and have been quite happy with it.

My family just recently made the upgrade to cable internet and I’m looking to purchase a new desktop computer to replace our old one, the one we currently have is 10 years old. Any advice on which is the best to buy. We’re not looking for anything too fancy, just a basic setup. I have looked online at CNET for reviews and the two best reviewed they haver are HP Pavilion Slimline S3330f and eMachines T5254. Should I go with one of these or something else? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ok, so I’m assuming you already have a wireless router and a wireless network setup in your house, with an internet connection connected to the router so that all computers connected to the network can access the internet. For the other desktop to connect to your network it must have a wireless adaptor. Once you are sure it has a working wireless adaptor, open up the wireless settings and find your network. Enter your appropriate network password and it should connect. If you are still having trouble or do not understand part of the above instructions, post more specific questions and we will try to help you from there.

I’m trying to make my own gaming PC so I can play crysis on the maximum settings and run the fastest and bestest on those settings and I don’t know where to get parts without going online and getting them. Any help?

Well if you can’t go online, you are really limiting your choices. All the best hardware is available online only. Or if you find it in a retail store, it’s going to cost 200% more. CompUSA and Circuit City are out of business now (well, CC still exists, but is online only I think). That leaves Best Buy and Staples. And if you are lucky enough to have one near you, there is Fry’s. Not a lot of selection for hardware without going online.

But if you have a Best Buy near you…

You could start with a prebuilt system by Asus or Compaq, as both of these are fairly cheap. Look for 3GHz CPU clock speed and multi-core CPU. That will give you a good start. Then you will want to immediately replace both the power supply and the video card with something decent. Like a HD 4770 or 4800 series and a 650W power supply by BFG or Corsair or some other decent brand. You should be able to find all that at Best Buy.

As far as starting from scratch with nothing and choosing individual components? There is like nothing left in the retail world (OFFline) that will really allow you to do that without spending many hundreds of dollars more than is necessary.

I purchased an anti-virus security suite that says it’s license is good on 3 computers. I have used it already on my personal pc, my question is can I now use the license to download the security suite on two other computers not belonging to me?

Theoretically yes you should be able to do that….. However keep in mind if you change computers you won’t be able to install it on the new computer

I want to buy new/refurbished Pentium I and II computers, such as those with processing speeds of 266-400 MHZ. I also would like to find computers with processing speeds in the 750-900 MHZ range.

I’ve checked Google, eBay, and the websites of various refurbished PC merchants, but I haven’t managed to locate any computers with these specifications.

Where can I find these kinds of computers? Serious responses only, please…

My old laptop I have is starting to die on me and it’s time for an upgrade. But I’m a student in college right now, and money is pretty tight. I need a cheap laptop that will be good for simple things like Microsoft Word and connecting to the internet. I don’t even care if the laptop is refurbished, I just need something basic.

I’d recommend a Hewlett Packard (HP) or a Toshiba laptop, because they both have good laptops for a small price.
If you’re getting an HP, then you should see the Pavilion series (dv6, dv7) or the Compaq series (Compaq 600, 610, 6720, 6730).
If you’re getting a Toshiba, then go for the Satellite series (A300, P500, P300, A500).
There are also good and cheap Samsung, Acer and Asus laptops.

I dont have a wireless card for my desktop and I want to connect it to my laptop and use my laptops wireless connection. What do I do?

you need to have your laptop hooked up to the internet wirelessly. Once done, plug in the cable and connect each other. You will have to keep this connection since your desktop does not have a wireless card.If you get one, then you need to go to your list of network connections and connect to the one you want. You can also buy one for your desktop. If this doesn’t work, I am happy to help further.

It gets the house cool on mild or cloudy days, late at night and in the mornings. But by noon on a hot day (90 Farenheit) it runs constantly and the house temps go up. What could be the problem?

I am having the same problem.it is real cold in the night or in the morning but from 1 to 3 it feels like i am outside in the sun.

This is a Dynex G-Extended card and
is recognized by Ubuntu.. I’m on 7.10 .. I’m waiting a while before transferring to Hardy (8.04)..

But it’s great to have the option to use two Wifi devices on the same laptop..
