Desktops are for people who do not know much about computers, laptops are for more tech savvy people and have more capabilities. Also the laptop section has a greater selection than the desktop section.

Your reasoning is flawed. Find a "tech person" that doesn’t regularly use a desktop. If you do, they aren’t a "tech person". As far as "choice" goes, you can build your own desktop, you have almost unlimited choice. Laptops, you have to stick with the components the manufacturer is willing to customize with.

Laptops are portable, but more expensive. Desktops are cheaper, but not portable. Desktops have larger screens, and are capable of having more than one. Laptops have small screens. Desktops are typically more powerful, while laptops are typically less.

Both have their places.

there is not a separate version for each type of machine, if that’s what you mean; you download or buy the same OS package regardless of what type of Mac you run, and the installer program looks at the computer it’s being installed on and chooses the appropriate components to install based on that machine’s type and configuration.

I need to order about 3 Desktops (or laptops if I have to) with Windows XP Professional with hopefully 2Gb RAM and need suggestions on websites. It seems like every time I find a vendor, the product becomes unavailable when I need to order more.

PCs with xp are no more sold.PCs with windows xp were stopped selling since late 2008.You can get Pcs or laptops with vista or 7 from amazon and from branded companies like HP,Dell etc.

I need to know what should be the KVA rating of an Online UPS to serve 15 desktops and 2 Air Conditioners. I would also like to know what rating should the batteries have and how many batteries I would be needing to have a back up for the above mentioned devices for a minimum of 6 hours. You haven’t provided nearly enough information, especially about the air conditioner load.

But, for a six-hour backup, including environmental, you’re talking about a substantial system that will include both a battery-powered UPS for instant response, and a fuel-burning generator (diesel, gasoline, natural gas, or propane) for long-term backup.

Since you don’t need instant response for the air conditioners, you might consider using 15 off-the-shelf commercial battery UPS systems for the computers, and put the whole facility on a transfer switch for the generator. The battery UPS systems will keep the computers up, and it won’t matter if the air conditioners are off for a couple of minutes while the generator warms up.

So basically, both do the same things, just KDE would be similar to Windows 7 (flashy, tons of stuff) and Gnome would be like Mac OS (simpler, cleaner looking)?

All you need is a simple KVM Switch.

How do I share folders on the desktops of 2 Windows 7 PC’s?

I want to share folders with complete permissions to copy, cut, and delete between 2 folders on the desktops of 2 separate Win 7 machines. I do not want to have any error messages that tell me that "Windows cannot access \\computer\foldername". This is the message I have been getting regularly! Thanks.

In "Control Panel" go to "Network and sharing center" and on the left panel go to the advanced configuration and make sure you are sharing files and printers, and have network detection on.

Right click the folder you want to share and click "Properties", click the "Share" tab, click on "Advanced Share", check "Share this folder" and that’s it. I don’t use Win7’s Homegroup for security concerns because Windows will randomly decide to share all your files.
