Introducing the Xcore86 and new Gecko Edubook
December 212009
The Xcore86 is a new Device on Chip that features a full x86 computer on a single chip. This video shows how the Xcore86 can be used to power future handheld devices that will be able to run existing x86 operating systems such as Windows and Linux. Also shown is the upcoming new Gecko Edubook. The Gecko Edubook is the least expensive 8.9 inch screen x86 netbook available. It is also fanless, features standard rechargable AA NiMH batteries and can be booted from a standard SD or 2.5 inch hard disk.

I have had a lot of comments on the video quality. The unit in this video was the very first prototype which we had to ship to Africa for evaluation the very next day. I only had the unit in my hands for a few hours. We are now shipping out pre production units to potential dealers and partners and the final units should ship in August. We are very interested in all Education projects.

Well, it sounds like a very very promising machine (I mean the Gecko), but PLEASE… choose an appropriate scenario for the video next time… maybe a white background, good lightening, good sound etc.
The Brazilian government is always looking for good and cheap machines (for educational programs), maybe it can be a good opportunity for your company, not only here.
regards.

this was an excellent idea and i’m very pleased that the company was able to get it off the ground at the stated price point. i wish them all the success in the world; i especially hope that low-middle income developing countries pick this up in mass quantities and gain the costs savings from low power usage and using linux distributions.
