Android Laptop Review: Hivision PWS700CA
February 192010
This is a worlds first video-review of an ARM9 Powered Android Laptop, the PWS700CA by Shenzhen based Hivision, find more info at: http://hvsco.com/ProductsView.asp?articleid=789
It is based on a Rockchip RK2808 600mhz ARM926 processor, 128SDRAM, 7″ 800×480 screen, 720p Video playback support, WiFi, Ethernet, audio input/output and weights only 650grams.
The price has not yet been announced officially because Hivision is looking for worldwide distributors of this product, who will then decide how much it will be sold for to end consumers. But you can understand that if Hivision was able to sell those types of laptops for $98 more than a year ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKQbN6tpYXw, then surely the price has not gone up since then, at least if you consider what might be the manufacturing costs when this Laptop would be mass manufactured. My guess is that if a giant consumer electronics retailer like Amazon, Walmart or Best Buy approached Hivision to order high quantities of this laptop, it could be sold even below $99 to end users.

@ORIF9 in Denmark …
@ORIF9 in Denmark Telenor, in UK Three, in Germany Tchibo, in Spain Yoigo. In Europe we get the Mifi for less than $100 unlocked to use on any network which provides HSDPA for anywhere between 0 and 20€ per month with no contracts needed. I’ll post a video review soon.

@mediamantx Android …
@mediamantx Android can be made to play DivX and Flash 10.1 support for Android is coming next month. Modifying Android for laptops (no touchscreen keyboard showing up for example), I think that should be rather easy to do.

Android can’t play …
Android can’t play DivX files nor Flash so this laptop will be veery limitated on those two aspects.
Also, On-Screen KeyBoard totally useless as the laptop’s screen isn’t touch. xDD
I’m an Android user for my smartphone but Android for Computers is quitely useless, instead they should mount another Linux distribution at the same price.

@momenabdulla There …
@momenabdulla There is a Skype app called Nimbuz I think, but I don’t know if it works well yet. In theory VOIP and Skype should work fine. But those kinds of apps are still under construction for Android I think.

@Frap357 There …
@Frap357 There probably would be space for a 8.9″ screen in this form factor. In fact Hivision told me that they are making a 8.9″ version as well.
