Who else believes that the homeless problem should be included as an issue for the presidential canidates?

This country has a huge homeless problem and yet there are no canidates talking about it. I know that some are homeless by choice or are addicts but that is no excuse for not facing up to the problem
someone said that this problem is a state and comunity problem and not a federal problem. BULL…The homeless travel all over the country so therefor it is a federal prblem too.
i agree. they’re worrying about small issues when poverty is one of the biggest issues facing this country.

People in this country are free to live any way they want, so if they choose to lose everything they have, how is that the government’s problem?

There are more imporantant problems to address those of moral and ethical propertion that will end our strengthen our freedoms as a country in whole. And the politicians shouldn’t have to address those issues their job is not to take care of the homless but to uphold the consitution of the US and nothing more.
More people less governement is needed.

Poverty is an ongoing concern for democrats…republicans don’t really care. A capitalist society will always have some poverty, as we have had since day one. More acute issues…like the war…always get the most attention at election time.

for the majority of voters the homeless are out of sight or they refuse to see them…..OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND……maybe also a topic is welfare reform

i agree something should be done. do you have a preferred candidate? you could try writing them a letter expressing your concern. or you could find someone in your local govt that you could send a letter to. starting small is at least starting something.

yes it should be an issue…we are so concerned about the homeless people of other countries instead of our own i believe that we should focus more on our own countries problems at times then the worlds…

Me. Time for this great nation to help its homeless. And it’s not just the government’s job.

Candidates are more concerned with the hungry, homeless, orphaned, medical care, and education in other countries. These issues don’t even run a close second in this country. Candidates are more corned about their Humanitarian efforts in foreign countries then the poverty and other severe problems that this country faces.

Last year I worked for the my county’s homeless program and it is a nightmare. Recently when Gov. Schwartzenegger signed the California budget, he cut 55 million dollars from the states homeless programs. I understand his job is hard and there may be mitigating circumstances that we are not aware of bu, if he could see these people in this desperate situation I think he would change his mind about cutting funds.
In the homeless program there are different teams that are assigned to do outreach. Its a different team everyday. They go to places in the region that are known to be inhabited by the homeless, such as parks, parking lots, riverbanks. They are finding that a large majority of these homeless are mentally ill. Many of the mentally ill have been diagnosed previously but somehow have stopped taking their medications and after that its just a short trip to life on the streets. I agree wholeheartedly that the candidates should be speaking to this issue.

You’ve just answered your own question. And…the homeless don’t vote.

Painting the democrats as the good people who care and the republicans as the bad people who don’t is rubbish. In the end, neither of them have done a damn thing about poverty in this country except talk about the problem during the campaigns. Once they’re elected…nothing. They have money for bridges to nowhere and spinach farmer subsidies, but not for our homeless.

I would like to see candidates figure out ways to require them to work for benefits. We’d win by having more low end labor and the homeless would win by having the dignity and feeling of accomplishment that comes with earning a living. Who knows, maybe a small percentage would eventually push themselves out of that situation and really benefit society.

Homelessness is state and community issue. It’s unrealistic to think that the Federal government can impact this issue in a real way.
