We'd win by having more low end labor and the homeless would win by having the dignity and feeling of accomplishment that comes with earning a living. In the end, neither of them have done a damn thing about poverty in this country except talk about the problem during the campaigns. Once they're elected...nothing. Recently when Gov. Schwartzenegger signed the California budget, he cut 55 million dollars from the states homeless programs. I understand his job is hard and there may be mitigating circumstances that we are not aware of bu, if he could see these people in this desperate situation I think he would change his mind about cutting funds. In the homeless program there are different teams that are assigned to do outreach. Its a different team everyday. They go to places in the region that are known to be inhabited by the homeless, such as parks, parking lots, riverbanks. They are finding that a large majority of these homeless are mentally ill. Many of the mentally ill have been diagnosed previously but somehow have stopped taking their medications and after that its just a short trip to life on the streets.
