Questions about eMachines ET1161-05 Refurbished Desktop PC?
February 102010
I am thinking of buying this from tigerdirect. It only cost 170 bucks. But i have a question about the cpu. I want to upgrade to a dual core amd. Can someone tell me if the cpu that is already installed in the pc is soldered on? Because i know name brand pc’s do things so that you cant upgrade and stuff. And can someone give me step by step instructions on how to install the cpu. I know how to set it in the socket and needs to match the am2 socket but do i just socket it in and the pc work or what?
The CPU is not soldered on. That hasn’t happened for years (10+).
You can upgrade the processor, but it needs to be a low wattage (45 – 65w) processor. It only has a 250w power supply, so don’t expect much to be upgraded without upgrading the power supply first.

These are not very good computers. Spend a little more and get a better one first. I’ve known 4 people who bought these and they all failed the same way within a year. Heat. 4 for 4.
